Alan Shearer believes that Newcastle United is likely to sign a short-term replacement for the injured Nick Pope, despite earlier claims that the club had confidence in Martin Dubravka and Loris Karius to fill in during Pope’s absence.
Dubravka, who took over from the injured Pope, has conceded seven goals in the team’s last two games, equaling the number Pope allowed in the previous 10 matches. The 4-1 defeat to Spurs saw Dubravka make a couple of errors.
Acknowledging the challenge of stepping into the team after an extended period on the sidelines, Shearer expressed his belief that Newcastle will actively pursue another goalkeeper in the coming weeks. While understanding the difficulty of adjusting to the team, Shearer stated that he would be surprised if Newcastle did not seek additional goalkeeping options.
The media has already linked several goalkeepers with Newcastle, including David De Gea, Aaron Ramsdale, Hugo Lloris, and Keylor Navas, following the news of Nick Pope’s injury. As speculation continues, it remains to be seen who Newcastle will bring in to address their goalkeeping situation in the short term.
