Former Rangers midfielder Scott Arfield has praised the impact of manager Philippe Clement, crediting him with reviving the team’s fortunes and opening up the title race in the Scottish Premiership. Clement took over in October, inheriting a team that was trailing by seven points. Under his management, Rangers have gone unbeaten in eight league matches, securing seven victories and one draw. The recent defeat of Celtic to Kilmarnock has reduced the gap to five points, with Rangers having a game in hand.
Arfield, who now plays for Charlotte FC, expressed his delight at seeing Rangers’ resurgence under Clement. He noted the positive impact of the managerial change and the team’s improved form, emphasizing the unpredictability of Scottish football. Arfield believes that the upcoming match against Celtic on the 30th could be crucial in determining the title race and highlighted the significance of winning the cup final against Aberdeen as a potential springboard for more success.
The former Rangers player acknowledged the challenges the team faced, including injuries to key players, but expressed encouragement about their form under the new manager. Arfield suggested that with more players returning from injury, Rangers could propel themselves into contention for the league title.
On the other hand, Scott Brown, Arfield’s former Old Firm opponent and current Celtic player, expressed confidence that Celtic would recover from their recent defeat. Brown emphasized the strength of character in the Celtic dressing room and the team’s ability to bounce back. He downplayed the impact of the defeat, stating that it was the first league loss of the season and that Celtic remains in a healthy position.
Both Arfield and Brown provided insights into the competitive nature of the Scottish Premiership and the determination of their respective teams to contend for the title. The upcoming matches, including the Old Firm Derby and the cup final, are expected to play a significant role in shaping the trajectory of the title race.
