Reading loanee Dom Ballard has provided an update on his surgery, confirming that it went well after sustaining a season-ending injury during the match against Wycombe Wanderers. The 18-year-old, who was on loan from Southampton, showcased his talent with five goals in 12 appearances before the unfortunate incident.
Ballard’s campaign came to an abrupt end due to a patella tendon injury suffered in Reading’s 2-1 victory over Wycombe Wanderers. The young striker, visiting a surgeon in London, is now facing a recovery period of up to 12 months.
Southampton’s manager, Russell Martin, shared insights into Ballard’s situation, stating, “It went well. I spoke to Dom before and have shared a couple of messages since. He is in a lot of pain, physically and mentally, I’m sure. He’s a brilliant boy, really resilient and with lots of energy. It’s such a shame. He was just starting to come into his own at Reading, and he had a great trip away with England. Sometimes, it happens.”
Despite the setback, Ballard, who was Reading’s second-highest scorer this season, expressed positivity on his Instagram, saying, “Operation was successful ✅ The road to recovery starts now.” The teenager’s resilience and determination will play a crucial role as he embarks on the journey back to full fitness.
