Todd Bowles of the Buccaneers praises Baker Mayfield’s approach.

Following the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ hard-fought 29-25 victory against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 14, head coach Todd Bowles heaped praise on his veteran quarterback, Baker Mayfield. Bowles commended Mayfield’s mental toughness and highlighted his ability to stay composed and make critical plays.

“I’ve been bragging about his mettle all year. He’s a guy that we rally around. He’s a guy that puts us in position to win. He doesn’t get rattled easy, and he came up with some plays,” Bowles expressed in his post-game comments on Sunday, as reported by ESPN. He further emphasized the team’s fighting spirit and competitiveness, recognizing the significance of the hard-earned win and anticipating similar challenges in the coming weeks.

Baker Mayfield's one of cheapest QBs around, but that will soon change

Throughout the game, the Buccaneers maintained their lead, although the Falcons consistently fought back, either tying the score or narrowing the gap. With just over three minutes remaining, the Falcons took a 25-22 lead. However, Baker Mayfield showcased his leadership by orchestrating a crucial 12-play, 75-yard touchdown drive that consumed nearly three minutes of game time. This drive effectively sealed the game, leaving the Falcons with only 31 seconds to attempt a comeback, which they were unable to achieve.

The outcome of the Buccaneers-Falcons game, coupled with the New Orleans Saints’ victory over the Carolina Panthers, has intensified the competition in the AFC South. Currently, all three leading teams (excluding the Panthers) hold a 6-7 record as they enter the crucial final stretch of the season.
