Rotherham United manager Leam Richardson has appointed Rob Kelly as his assistant head coach, adding experience and depth to the coaching staff. Kelly, who previously served as an assistant manager at Sheffield Wednesday and Leeds United, returns to football after taking a break from his role at Preston due to personal health issues in August.

The 58-year-old has an extensive coaching background, having worked with Richardson during their time at Wigan Athletic. Kelly’s wealth of experience includes stints at Blackburn Rovers, West Brom, Wolves, Nottingham Forest, Tranmere, Burton, Barrow, Malmö, Fortuna Düsseldorf, Fleetwood, as well as his previous roles at Leeds, Wednesday, and Wigan.

His contract with Rotherham United is set to run until the summer of 2026, providing stability and continuity to the coaching setup. Kelly’s arrival strengthens the coaching staff in preparation for the upcoming match against Plymouth Argyle on Saturday. He will collaborate with the existing coaching team, including Wayne Carlisle, Dan Green, and Scott Brown, in the technical area.
