Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson has suggested that Dean Henderson could potentially make his Premier League debut for the club in the upcoming match against Manchester City. The 26-year-old goalkeeper sustained a quad injury during his debut in the 3-0 EFL Cup defeat against Manchester United. Henderson, who joined Palace from Manchester United in the summer on a five-year deal, has been recovering from the injury.
Injuries have impacted several key players in previous matches, with Sam Johnstone suffering a calf injury in a past season’s defeat to Liverpool. Jefferson Lerma and Odsonne Edouard also faced injuries in a match against Liverpool. Additionally, Tyrick Mitchell is expected to return to the starting lineup after being forced off in a previous defeat against Bournemouth.
Hodgson confirmed that there will be four academy players on the bench for the upcoming match. Crystal Palace is currently experiencing a winless streak in their last five Premier League outings.
Providing an update on the team’s condition, Hodgson mentioned, “Tyrick Mitchell is OK, which is good. Mitchell is the only one really who is back. Dean Henderson has trained this week, but it is probably too early to play. The medical department would like him to have more time. We are already missing important players like Jordan Ayew, who is suspended, goalkeeper Sam Johnstone, Jefferson Lerma, and Odsonne Edouard.”
Despite the challenges, Hodgson remains optimistic about the team’s performance in the upcoming game against Manchester City.
