Stoke City is due to announce a new manager next week, and 49yrs is a top candidate.

Stoke City is nearing a decision on their new manager, with Paul Heckingbottom emerging as a leading candidate, as reported by The Sun. Since parting ways with Alex Neil, the Potters have been under the temporary leadership of Paul Gallagher, currently placed 20th in the Championship and facing the threat of relegation in 2024. With only a two-point margin above the drop zone, competition from Huddersfield Town, QPR, and Sheffield Wednesday intensifies.

According to The Sun, final interviews for the managerial position are expected to occur in the coming week, with Paul Heckingbottom gaining prominence as a potential choice. The 46-year-old, eager for a swift return to coaching, is set to meet with John Coates. Other contenders include John Eustace and Tony Mowbray, and there’s a possibility of pursuing Plymouth Argyle’s highly-regarded manager, Steven Schumacher.

Heckingbottom, recently relieved of his duties at Sheffield United, enjoyed success with the Blades by guiding them up the Championship table to secure automatic promotion to the Premier League. Stoke City hopes for a similar impact, but their immediate priority is to distance themselves from the relegation zone.

Known for galvanizing both squad and fanbase at Sheffield United, Heckingbottom’s leadership could provide a positive influence for Stoke City. The outcome of the interviews remains uncertain, with several options still under consideration.

While Steven Schumacher presents an intriguing option, his commitment to Plymouth Argyle has been affirmed in the past, and it is unlikely that the Pilgrims would be willing to lose him to a Championship rival, especially one currently positioned below them in the league.
