Jose Mourinho has provided his perspective on his future at Roma amidst speculation linking him to a potential managerial role at Newcastle United in the Premier League this summer. The renowned Portuguese coach, known for his successful stints with clubs like Porto, Inter Milan, Manchester United, and Real Madrid, has addressed the rumors surrounding his possible return to the Premier League.
Despite a stellar career that has seen him achieve success with various clubs, including two notable spells at Chelsea, Mourinho’s recent link to Newcastle has sparked interest. The Magpies, experiencing a resurgence since the PIF takeover, have seen manager Eddie Howe guide them to a top-four finish in the previous season and a Champions League spot this season.
While Eddie Howe’s position at St James’ Park appears secure, ongoing rumors have suggested a potential move for Mourinho, especially as his contract with Roma is set to expire this summer. Mourinho, in an interview with DAZN, expressed his desire to continue with Roma, emphasizing that any departure would not be by his choice. He discussed the challenges posed by Financial Fair Play (FFP) limitations and hinted at a focus on developing young players for the future.
Regarding a contract extension with Roma, Mourinho revealed that discussions had not taken place yet. He apologized publicly to midfielder Renato Sanches after substituting him just 18 minutes after being introduced in a recent match. Despite facing challenges in the Serie A campaign, Mourinho acknowledged the dedication of Roma’s fans and stressed that any potential separation from them would not be his preference.
