Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson has reveal his January transfer plan, as the team need to improve squad

Phil Parkinson remains tight-lipped about his strategies for the upcoming January transfer window. After securing the National League title in the 2022-23 season and making a triumphant return to the Football League after a 15-year absence, Wrexham has sustained their momentum this season. Going into the Welsh derby against Newport County at The Racecourse on Saturday, they currently hold the third position in League Two, trailing six points behind leaders Stockport with a game in hand.

Despite strengthening the squad in the summer, Parkinson hints at the possibility of new signings in the New Year to enhance their promotion challenge. However, he refrains from committing to specific plans, stating, “I don’t want to make any predictions for January in terms of incoming players.” Emphasizing their continuous quest for improvement, Parkinson asserts that the team is actively assessing various situations while keeping details under wraps.

With Eoghan O’Connell making a comeback from injury and Ryan Barnett and Steven Fletcher returning to training, Parkinson now has more options at his disposal. Additionally, three senior players, Bryce Hosannah, Callum McFadzean, and Billy Waters, who have been restricted to cup games since September, may feature in league matches in January.

Acknowledging the constraints of a 22-man squad in League Two, Parkinson notes that players under the age of 21 and goalkeepers are exempt from this limit. He reveals that players like Max Cleworth, who falls into the exempt category, could be part of the squad. While assessing the squad’s dynamics, Parkinson expresses anticipation about welcoming players back into the group, emphasizing the flexibility allowed in squad composition during January.
