Leicester City manager Enzo Maresca has expressed his satisfaction with George Hirst’s successful move to Ipswich Town, stating that the 24-year-old forward made it clear he wanted to rejoin the Blues in the summer. Hirst had an impactful loan spell with Ipswich in the second half of the 2022/23 season, scoring seven goals and contributing to the team’s promotion to the Championship.
Hirst, who joined Ipswich Town in a £1.5 million move, has continued to impress in the current season, netting six goals and providing six assists. Maresca commended Hirst’s desire to return to Ipswich, emphasizing that the player expressed his keen interest in being part of the team that made the transition from League One to the Championship.
The Leicester City manager revealed that Hirst repeatedly asked to join Ipswich, citing the positive experience he had with the club in the previous season. Maresca acknowledged Hirst’s success with Ipswich and expressed his happiness for the player, while jokingly hoping for him to take some rest when facing Leicester City in their upcoming match. Hirst had joined Leicester City in the summer of 2019 from Belgian side OH Leuven but had limited first-team opportunities before making a significant impact with Ipswich Town.
