West Ham United’s sporting director, Mark Noble, has conveyed the club board’s expectations to manager David Moyes, emphasizing the importance of maintaining their current position in and around the top six in the Premier League while progressing in European competitions.
The discussions about West Ham’s performances and results have intensified, particularly after fan backlash following Moyes’ decision to rest key players in the Carabao Cup quarter-final against Liverpool. This debate prompted Moyes to defend his record and question the potential for improvement without significant investment.
Mark Noble has now spoken about the board’s expectations in an interview with TNT Sports Discovery Plus. According to Noble, the board expects West Ham to maintain their current standing in the top six while making progress in European competitions.
Noble stated, “What’s acceptable (for West Ham this season)? I think where we are now would be very acceptable in the league (around the top six), we’re in the latter stages of European competition, we won our group. Obviously, you’ve still got the FA Cup, but do I believe we can go further in the European competition? Yes.”
He continued, “And I think if we keep winning the games that we should be winning in the Premier League then I think we can definitely stay where we are, and that would be massive for us this season.”
With Moyes’ contract set to expire at the end of the season, speculation has surrounded whether he will be offered a new deal. While discussions about a contract extension have not taken place, Noble’s comments suggest that maintaining the current league position and progressing in European competitions will be key factors in determining Moyes’ future with the club. The decision on Moyes’ contract is likely to follow the club’s end-of-season evaluation policy.
