Hull City, Birmingham City and Huddersfield Town keen on League One ace, reporter claims
Hull City, Birmingham City, and Huddersfield Town are expressing strong interest in acquiring Nathaniel Mendez-Laing from Derby County, as reported by Alex Howell. The winger, instrumental in Derby County’s ascent to 3rd place in the League One table, may be the subject of a January transfer window battle.
Mendez-Laing, aged 31, has showcased impressive form this season with six goals and 10 assists in 25 appearances across all competitions. His contract with Derby County concludes at the end of this campaign, rendering him a free agent in the upcoming summer unless a contract extension is secured or the club opts to sell him in the upcoming transfer window.
With over 400 games of experience in the Football League, Mendez-Laing has a notable history with previous stints at Wolves, Peterborough United, Sheffield United, Portsmouth, Shrewsbury Town, Cambridge United, Rochdale, Cardiff City, Middlesbrough, and Sheffield Wednesday. Hull’s manager Liam Rosenior, Birmingham’s Wayne Rooney, and Huddersfield’s Darren Moore all have connections with Mendez-Laing from their time together at Derby or other clubs.
While Derby County may be reluctant to lose the winger midway through the season, the prospect of him moving up a league could pose a challenge, especially considering the risk of losing him for free in June 2024 if a transfer doesn’t materialize in the January window.
