West Bromwich Albion manager Carlos Corberan is optimistic about the potential return of Daryl Dike, who has been sidelined for eight months due to a ruptured Achilles. Dike, a powerful American striker, joined West Brom in January 2022 following a successful loan spell with Barnsley.
Corberan is eager to have Dike back in the squad and has mentioned that the striker has been back in training lately. Despite his enthusiasm, he acknowledges that the medical staff may exercise caution and push back on an immediate return. Corberan stated, “Let’s see tomorrow [with] the training. I will push my medical staff and they will push me back, 100 per cent!”
The report notes that the medical and fitness staff at West Brom have been advocating for caution, considering the extended duration of Dike’s absence and his persisting injury issues.
While Corberan understandably desires Dike’s impactful presence in the team, especially given limited striker options this season, it is suggested that a gradual and cautious approach to reintegrating the striker into action may be the best course of action. Returning to training and gradually increasing his workload with substitute appearances could be a prudent strategy.
Dike, who has seven goals in 27 games for West Brom, had a total of 16 goals and an assist in 44 Championship games across his time with West Brom and Barnsley. The decision on Dike’s return to Championship football will likely depend on the recommendations of the medical experts at West Brom, with Corberan indicating his willingness to comply with their guidance.
