Stefon Diggs’ Trainer Speaks Out on Receiver’s Minimized Role With Bills
The Buffalo Bills, with a current record of 10-6, have secured four consecutive victories. A win against the Miami Dolphins in Week 18 would enable them to claim the No. 2 seed in the AFC.
An intriguing aspect of the Bills’ recent success is the reduced involvement of Stefon Diggs, their primary wide receiver. In the team’s 27-21 triumph over the New England Patriots, Diggs was on the field for only 65% of the offensive snaps, a decline in his usual participation. Despite assurances from Bills head coach Sean McDermott that Diggs is not injured, his diminished role in the game plan raises questions.
Myron Flowers, Diggs’ trainer, addressed concerns about the receiver’s recent statistical performance, emphasizing the team’s focus on winning and expressing confidence in Diggs when needed. This sentiment echoes remarks from Bills interim offensive coordinator Joe Brady, who stressed Diggs’ commitment to winning despite a decrease in explosive plays.

While Brady expressed a desire to involve Diggs more, the star receiver’s production has seen a decline. In the first 10 weeks of the season, Diggs played 87.4% of offensive snaps, averaging 10.2 targets with 7.3 catches for 86.8 yards. However, in Weeks 11-17, his participation dropped to 63.3%, with averages of 8.3 targets, 4.5 receptions, and 38 yards.
Attempts to seek clarification on Diggs’ reduced usage from McDermott were met with explanations related to quarterback Josh Allen’s decision-making rather than any reported injury. Despite McDermott’s assurance that there is no significant medical issue, questions linger about the reasons behind Diggs’ limited role.
In a press conference, McDermott suggested a combination of play design and the need to give Diggs breaks contribute to his reduced snaps. A follow-up question from a reporter was abruptly cut off by the team’s PR, adding to the mystery surrounding Diggs’ situation.
The Bills face a crucial game against the Dolphins in Week 18, with the opportunity to secure the AFC East title and a playoff spot. Despite Diggs’ decreased involvement, he has amassed impressive statistics for the season. The hope is that Diggs can play a more prominent role in the upcoming game, potentially propelling the Bills to their fifth consecutive victory.
