Town Closing in On Loan Signing of Blackburn Skipper Travis
TWTD (The Wonderful Town Diary) has gathered information indicating that Ipswich Town is in advanced negotiations for the loan signing of Lewis Travis, the current captain of Blackburn Rovers. The completion of the deal is anticipated to be confirmed today.
Lewis Travis, a versatile 26-year-old player, primarily operates as a defensive midfielder but can also play as a right-back or left-back. Travis is expected to arrive at Ipswich Town today to finalize the necessary paperwork for his loan switch until the end of the season.
Travis has fallen out of favor at Blackburn Rovers, starting only two of the last 10 matches and not featuring in his preferred central midfield role since the beginning of October. Born in Whiston, Travis initially joined Liverpool’s academy as a defender before moving to Blackburn Rovers’ youth setup in 2014. Tony Mowbray, former Town skipper and coach, converted him into a midfielder.
Having signed his first professional deal with Blackburn at the age of 19 in 2017, Travis made his senior debut later that year. Standing at 6 feet tall, he has accumulated 189 starts and 35 substitute appearances for Rovers. Travis extended his contract until 2026 in March 2022 and was named club captain during the summer of the same year.
Ipswich Town is reportedly one of several Championship clubs interested in securing Travis on loan, with Millwall and Preston also expressing previous interest. Travis is expected to provide cover for Sam Morsy, who is suspended for the next two Championship matches, both in terms of playing position and leadership qualities.
This potential deal is poised to be completed in time for Travis to be included in the squad for Ipswich Town’s FA Cup third-round tie against AFC Wimbledon tomorrow. If confirmed, Travis will be the second signing for Ipswich Town in the current transfer window.
