Huddersfield Town close to sealing transfer for 25-goal Serbian striker

HJK Helsinki striker Bojan Radulovic is close to becoming an unexpected addition for Huddersfield Town. Following a significant 4-1 loss to Championship leaders Leicester City on New Year’s Day, Huddersfield recognized a substantial gap in class between them and the leading team. The managerial transition from Neil Warnock to Darren Moore in September has been a mixed experience, with only three wins in Moore’s first 19 league matches, accumulating 17 points out of a potential 57. This performance places Huddersfield in a relegation battle, currently sitting just three points above the relegation zone in 21st position.

Under the ownership of Kevin Nagle, who took over in the summer, Huddersfield made limited player signings, with only four new faces joining the squad. Despite a challenging first half of the season, a loan move for midfielder Alex Matos from Chelsea aimed to strengthen Moore’s midfield options. Now, there seems to be a focus on addressing the team’s need for a striker.

Reports suggest that Huddersfield is close to securing the services of Bojan Radulovic, a Spanish-born Serbian striker who has been playing in Finland since 2022. The 24-year-old had a successful 2023 season with HJK Helsinki, scoring 18 goals in 24 matches in the Veikkausliiga, helping his team win the league title. Additionally, he scored five times in seven appearances in the UEFA Europa Conference League. Radulovic has a year left on his contract with HJK Helsinki, but Huddersfield is reportedly ready to bring him to England for Championship action, though the transfer fee remains undisclosed.

Huddersfield’s struggles in attack, evident in a lack of a focal point, have led to various tactical adjustments, including playing wingers in forward positions. With injuries affecting key players, the need for a new center-forward has become more pressing. Radulovic, with his goal-scoring record in Europe, represents a calculated gamble for Huddersfield’s recruitment team. Despite the uncertainty, there is optimism that the 24-year-old could prove to be a valuable acquisition, potentially yielding profits in the years to come.
