BREAKING NEWS : Newcastle United are now pushing hard to sign Barcelona star

Newcastle United is actively exploring defensive options in the January transfer window, particularly with a focus on securing a central midfielder. The Magpies are facing challenges due to injuries and the suspension of Sandro Tonali, who is serving a 10-month ban for illegal betting activity during his time at AC Milan.

Eddie Howe, the Newcastle United manager, is eager to strengthen the squad, and talks have been rumored regarding a potential loan deal for Kalvin Phillips from Manchester City, as reported by Rudy Galetti.

While finding a replacement for Tonali is a priority for the club, there is also interest in acquiring a new center-back. According to recent information from Football Insider, Barcelona’s Andreas Christensen is reportedly ‘high on’ Eddie Howe’s ‘wanted list.’ The Danish international, who left Chelsea 18 months ago, has faced challenges in securing a regular spot in Xavi’s matchday squads at Barcelona. Despite starting 14 La Liga games, he has only been trusted in half of the club’s Champions League fixtures.

However, working out a deal for Christensen might pose difficulties due to Newcastle’s need to comply with Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules. Despite these challenges, the report suggests that the 27-year-old defender remains a player to keep an eye on as the January transfer window progresses.
