Leicester City is dealing with several injury concerns as they prepare for their upcoming match against Coventry at the CBS Arena. The lighter January schedule is expected to help the team recover players who are currently sidelined.
Currently, eight players are unavailable for Leicester City. Patson Daka and Harry Souttar are away representing Zambia and Australia, respectively, and their participation will depend on how far their countries go in the Africa Cup of Nations and Asian Cup. If these players reach the final stages of the tournaments, they may not be available until the home game against Middlesbrough on February 17.
Kelechi Iheanacho, though not yet joined up with Nigeria for the Afcon campaign due to an injury, is hopeful of recovering in time to play for the Super Eagles. Wilfred Ndidi has been ruled out of the tournament with a muscle injury, and his absence may extend until early April, providing opportunities for other midfielders, including young prospect Will Alves. Alves, who has been out of action since early December, is close to returning and could be on the bench against Coventry if he passes this week’s training sessions.
Jamie Vardy (knee) and Kasey McAteer (hamstring), initially expected to be out for one or two weeks, continue to be absent, with McAteer spotted in training after Christmas. Dennis Praet, who was anticipated to return in the final game of 2023, remains unavailable and was not part of the squad against Huddersfield or Millwall.
Leicester City manager Enzo Maresca is set to provide further updates on the fitness of his squad later in the week during a media preview session ahead of the M69 derby with Coventry on Friday.
