Wolves has officially announced the departure of another fantastic midfielder

Stoke City has officially announced the loan signing of midfielder Luke Cundle at the bet365 Stadium. The move is confirmed by Steve Davis, a former Stoke City youth defender, who is now overseeing the development of young players’ pathways at Wolves. Davis expresses confidence in Cundle’s ability to make an immediate impact at Stoke.

Cundle, who was on loan at Plymouth Argyle, was recalled by Wolves and loaned to Stoke until the end of the season. This marks the 21-year-old central midfielder’s third loan spell in the Championship, with a previous stint at Swansea City last year. During his half-season at Plymouth, Cundle scored five goals and provided six assists, accumulating a total of 68 senior career appearances. There is optimism that he can continue to enhance his end product.

Steve Davis mentions that the decision to bring Cundle to Stoke was influenced by Steven Schumacher, who had signed him for Plymouth in the summer. Schumacher, now at Stoke, sees Cundle as the type of player who can contribute creatively and add a goal threat to the team. Despite Cundle’s successful spell at Plymouth, the opportunity at Stoke was too appealing to pass up.

Reflecting on Cundle’s development, Davis notes the positive impact of his previous loans, especially at Swansea, where he showcased his playing style. Stoke is familiar with Cundle’s qualities, and Davis believes he can seamlessly integrate into their system, given the prior collaboration with Schumacher.

Cundle’s arrival marks Stoke’s second signing of the January transfer window, following the loan acquisition of goalkeeper Daniel Iversen from Leicester. The midfielder could potentially make his debut for Stoke in the upcoming match against Rotherham on Saturday.
