LSU football recruiting: QB Bryce Underwood, No. 1 overall prospect in 2025, commits to Tigers
LSU secured a major victory on the recruiting front as they landed a commitment from Bryce Underwood, the top prospect in the 2025 class, as reported by 247Sports. The highly sought-after five-star quarterback, hailing from Belleville High School in Michigan, made the announcement during a ceremony at his high school, expressing his admiration for LSU’s coaching staff, program history, and overall atmosphere.
Despite receiving over 41 offers from prominent programs such as Alabama, Georgia, Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Texas, and Colorado, Underwood ultimately chose LSU. His decision followed three unofficial visits to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, over the past year, emphasizing his interest in the Tigers.
Bryce Underwood boasts an impressive high school record, holding a 40-2 overall record as Belleville’s starting quarterback. In his junior season, he earned the title of the 2023 Michigan High School Football Player of the Year after throwing for 3,405 yards and 42 touchdowns with just three interceptions. Underwood led Belleville to consecutive state championships in 2021 and 2022, contributing to a 38-game win streak.
Described as a potential “generational talent” by 247Sports national recruiting analyst Allen Trieu, Underwood is recognized for his advanced physical attributes, strong arm, accurate deep throws, and the ability to make plays both with his arm and legs. Trieu highlighted Underwood’s decision-making and athleticism, suggesting he could excel as a high-level recruit on defense if not for his prowess as a quarterback.
Underwood is the eighth recruit in LSU’s 2025 cycle and the second five-star prospect, joining wide receiver Dakorien Moore. LSU has a history of producing standout quarterbacks, with recent successes like Joe Burrow and Jayden Daniels. Although there is a gap year before Underwood officially joins in 2025, he is poised to make a significant impact, potentially continuing the Tigers’ legacy of stellar quarterback play. The current favorite for the 2024 starting quarterback position is Garrett Nussmeier, but Underwood is expected to be a formidable contender upon his arrival in Baton Rouge. Overall, LSU emerges as a significant winner in the ongoing recruiting battles.
