Charlton Athletic has secured the services of midfielder Mel Filis on loan from West Ham United until the conclusion of the season. The 21-year-old, who inked her inaugural professional contract with West Ham in July 2021, boasts international experience, having been capped by England up to the U-23 level.
Expressing her anticipation for the upcoming six months, Filis emphasized the value of her prior year in the Championship, which provided her with crucial senior minutes. Reflecting on the changes in the Championship, she acknowledged the significant advancements in the league’s standard, citing the presence of Women’s Super League players as evidence of its elevated quality.
Originally from Essex, Filis initiated her career with Arsenal and, after a successful stint with London Bees, officially joined the Women’s Super League side West Ham in July 2021. In a related move, Chelsea Women have made a notable signing by acquiring Sweden international Nathalie Björn from Everton.
