West Ham United are close to announce the signing of £90,000-a-week premier league defender

West Ham United is reportedly targeting the acquisition of Wolves defender Max Kilman during the January transfer window, as per information from the Daily Mail. The UK newspaper (11 January, page 69) states that both Kilman and Ronnie Edwards, a defender from Peterborough, are highly regarded by the London Stadium. Despite this interest, Wolves are not compelled to sell Kilman this month, given that he signed a five-year contract in August, making him one of the top earners at the club with a weekly wage of approximately £90,000.

Over the past year, Kilman has gained recognition as one of the Premier League’s underrated center-backs, and his performance has notably improved under the management of Gary O’Neil since the season’s commencement. Consequently, clubs, including West Ham United, are expressing significant interest in securing his services. Kilman’s abilities position him as a player capable of competing at the highest level.

West Ham’s pursuit of Kilman aligns with the growing attention surrounding Nayef Aguerd, a star at the London Stadium, potentially departing the club this year. However, luring Kilman away will be challenging, especially in the current month, considering his recent contract extension and the positive strides Wolves are making under former West Ham midfielder O’Neil.

While West Ham may reiterate their interest in the summer, a substantial financial offer may be required to tempt Kilman away from Molineux. The progress achieved at the London Stadium this season could play a pivotal role in influencing Kilman’s decision between the advancements in East London or those in the Midlands, although it remains a challenging prospect. Nonetheless, it is within the realm of possibility.

In unrelated news related to West Ham United, reports suggest the club is “tracking” Jack Clarke as a potential alternative to Steven Bergwijn.
