The Auburn Tigers have lost their top linebacker to the portal.
Auburn is losing one of its most experienced linebackers to the transfer portal.
The Tigers will restock at linebacker this offseason, and they have used the transfer portal to add depth. However, they are simultaneously losing one of their most seasoned players.
Cam Riley, who played for the Tigers for four seasons from 2020 to 2023, has joined the transfer portal, according to 247Sports. Riley is Auburn’s largest linebacker in program history, standing 6-foot-5 and weighing 235 pounds. He was in line to start for the Tigers at the start of fall camp this past season.
“He’s competing for that starting spot,” Auburn linebackers coach Aldridge said. “He’s splitting those single reps a lot. Cam is probably – if we moved one of those guys down to a jack or sam linebacker, Cam would be the first one up. And he’s working on it too. I could see Cam, whether he starts or not, getting the most shots of everyone in the room because he’s doing so many stuff, right?”
Riley totaled 120 tackles, eight tackles for loss, and two sacks during his four years with the Tigers. His greatest season came in 2022, when he recorded 65 tackles, including 3.5 for loss. He will have one season of eligibility left.
Auburn signed Duke transfer Dorian Maui during this offseason, and he should be able to match Riley’s productivity.
