One of LSU’s reserve offensive linemen has retired from football rather than playing his final season.
Mason Lunsford, a former Maryland transfer, revealed Wednesday on social media that he is “done playing football and excited to begin the next chapter of my life.” He had one more year of eligibility.
“Thank you God for giving me the ability to and opportunity to play football,” Lunsford wrote in an email. “I’ve met so many incredible people across my football career and I want to thank all of you for your role in helping me become the man I am today.”
After starting 24 games for Maryland over four years, Lunsford went to LSU last spring. He later appeared in six games as a backup guard. The Tigers are returning four of their five starting offensive lineman.
