The most recent Premier League transfer news, as an attacker prepares for a medical after Wolves reached an agreement.
Gonçalo Guedes, a Wolverhampton Wanderers attacker, has had his loan at Benfica terminated ahead of a January loan move to La Liga club Villarreal.
The Portugal international, who was purchased by the Old Gold for €32.6 million (£27.9 million) from Valencia in August 2022, leaves Wolves after only 18 appearances. Guedes’ signing has been a catastrophe, with only two goals in those appearances, one of which came in the Premier League.
After falling out with former Wolves manager Julen Lopetegui, the 27-year-old went on loan to Benfica for the second part of the season. Guedes then returned to Benfica for the first half of the season, but only played 264 minutes in all competitions.
Transfer news journalist Fabrizio Romano writes that “an agreement has been sealed with Wolves” for Guedes to join Villarreal immediately. The attacker is scheduled to fly to Spain for a medical before completing his deal.
The terms of the deal have yet to be verified, although it is believed to be a straight six-month loan with Villarreal paying 100% of the player’s wages. The Wolves do not want to sell Guedes permanently just yet.
If the agile forward can get consistent game time in La Liga and start scoring again, Wanderers will have a better chance of recouping their £27.9 million cost.
