Matt Hobbs claims Yerson Mosquera impressed everyone in the brief weeks he was back at Wolves following his loan spell at FC Cincinnati.
The Colombian international had a very fruitful 2023 in the MLS, playing the entire season.
He was a top-performing defender in the league, with 35 games across all competitions.
Pathways manager Steve Davis paid Mosquera a visit at the end of his tenure and reported that he had been ‘excellent’.
Mosquera recently returned to Wolves and spent a few weeks with the team while the club considered what to do with him. Gary O’Neil named him to the bench several times, but the decision was made to loan him out again, and he will now spend the remainder of the season on loan at Villarreal.
Matt Hobbs claims. Yerson Mosquera pleased Gary O’Neil and the Wolves teammates upon his return from Cincinnati.
Wolves revealed yesterday evening that Mosquera had joined La Liga club Villarreal for the rest of the season.
Mosquera had been on the bench for Wolves’ Premier League match against Brighton on Monday night, but he was at Villarreal’s training complex the next morning for a physical and to finalise his transfer.
Mosquera will have the opportunity to test himself in a higher-level competition than the MLS.
Wolves have big expectations for the kid and believe he can truly become a first-team option.
Hobbs was speaking about Mosquera and his latest move, and claimed that the kid impressed his teammates during his brief return to the club following his Cincinnati loan.
He stated (Wolves official): “Yerson is highly popular among the players here, and they’ve been really impressed with how he’s returned – both on and off the pitch, he’s grown. He has a greater understanding of the role, and his one-on-one defending has improved, as noted by the players. He has impressed everyone, including Gary, the players, and the staff.”
An excellent opportunity for Mosquera.
It’s fascinating to hear Hobbs talk about Mosquera and how he’s made an influence on the Wolves players since returning from the States.
When he signed for £4.5 million from Atletico Nacional in 2021, he received a lot of attention, but his growth was interrupted by injury.
His loan stay at Cincinnati helped him get back into the game, and this recent move to Villarreal will allow him to really get back on track.
Mosquera will have the opportunity to compete against some of the best players in La Liga, which is a significant step up from the MLS.
Hopefully, he performs well and can return to Molineux in the summer to compete for a spot in the Wolves’ starting XI.
