Sheffield Wednesday will not give up on their seven-figure transfer chase of this one player.
Sheffield Wednesday are anxious to sign new players before the January transfer window closes tomorrow.
Danny Rohl’s side has had a quiet window thus far, with only James Beadle and Ike Ugbo joining, but there are a handful of names on the Owls’ radar right now.
Duncan McGuire, the Orlando City striker, has been extensively linked with a move to Hillsborough, but it appears like Blackburn Rovers may have outbid the Owls.
Sheffield Wednesday not giving up on Duncan McGuire
Yesterday, it was claimed that the USMNT striker was on the verge of sealing a move to Ewood Park, before it was then claimed that Sheffield Wednesday’s bid of £2.75million remained the highest bid.
There’s a lot of back and forth regarding McGuire’s future but there’s definitely seems to be strong interest there, especially so from Sheffield Wednesday.
Last night, journalist Joe Crann posted on X, revealing that the Owls ‘hadn’t given up’ on signing the 22-year-old
McGuire joined Orlando City from Lane City last year. He went on to score 13 MLS goals in his first season playing in the US top flight, with 15 goals in 37 total appearances for Orlando City last year; form that earned him his first cap for the USMNT.
Danny Rohl is facing make-or-break 48 hours.
As Crann points out, we are now in the final 48 hours of the transfer window, which is a huge 48 hours for Sheffield Wednesday.
What they manage to accomplish during these hours will have a significant impact on their Championship chances this season, so getting some new faces through the doors is critical.
So it’s no surprise that Sheffield Wednesday is spending so much money on McGuire, and that they aren’t giving up on this prospective signing.
Rohl and Dejphon Chansiri, on the other hand, require a backup plan in case McGuire’s relocation falls through.
Expect the club to have a lot of players on their wish list, but whether they have enough time to get them signed remains to be seen.
This month’s transfer window appears to be winding down quickly.
Sheffield Wednesday take on Watford in the Championship later today.
