LATEST NEWS : What George Byers said after leaving Sheffield Wednesday

George Byers says he’s glad to have signed a deal at Blackpool on loan from Sheffield Wednesday.
The Star reported earlier today that the 27-year-old was on the verge of joining the Tangerines in League One pending a physical, and it has now been confirmed that he has left the club until the end of the season, when his contract ends.

Neil Critchley was anxious to get him on board as Blackpool attempt to push for promotion back into the Championship over the next few months, and despite interest from other clubs, including the Championship and Germany, he was able to sign him on deadline day. Byers is looking forward to getting started.

“After what’s been a crazy 24 hours, it feels great to be here,” he said on the club’s website. “After speaking with the manager here, he stated what his goals are for the second half of the season and what the club is aiming for. That was a terrific conversation, and I outlined how I believed I might help the team in the second half of the season. I’m pleased to have completed this transaction and look forward to the second half of the season.”

Meanwhile, his new boss stated, “Midfield is an area we believe requires reinforcement, and George will bring us a new alternative in that part of the pitch. He adds great experience and technical talent to us after playing a lot of Championship games for Sheffield Wednesday this season… We look forward to working with him in the future months.

Wednesday is still working on getting deals done with reference to incomings, but nothing has been verified at this time.
