Even though the Buffalo Bills will be watching from home this year, quarterback Josh Allen is still getting some attention in the Super Bowl.
Allen received a shoutout from San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy when he visited with reporters ahead of Sunday’s championship game. Purdy expressed love for Allen, praising the Bills quarterback for his impressive statistical season.

On February 5, Purdy was asked by reporters who he would put on a fantasy football squad. The 49ers quarterback began by going through all of his teammates’ skill positions, including running back Christian McCaffrey.
“We’d have our whole team on my fantasy team,” Purdy said, pausing for a moment to select a quarterback. Purdy chose Allen after a reporter informed him that he was one of the statistical best at the position.
“Josh Allen, balling,” he stated. “There you go, Josh Allen.”
It would’ve been a wise decision. According to ESPN’s fantasy football scoring system, Allen has the second-highest total points this season, trailing only Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Ceedee Lamb. Allen’s rushing ability was obviously beneficial, as he and Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts both tied an NFL record for quarterbacks with 15 rushing touchdowns.
Purdy could have also chosen himself, as he was the 11th-ranked fantasy football player for 2023.
Josh Allen had other plans.
While he would have wanted to lead the Bills to the Super Bowl, Allen found a way to stay busy with his second favorite sport, golf. For the third year in a row, Allen passed up the opportunity to play in the Pro Bowl in favor of competing in the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, where he had the potential to defeat a longstanding rival.
Allen paired with PGA Tour player Keith Mitchell, placing sixth in the competition and two shots ahead of teammate quarterback Tom Brady. According to the Buffalo News, Allen placed a side bet with Brady before the tournament.
“It feels so amazing. “We had a minor bet, not for money, but for good pride and other things,” Allen explained. “It felt fantastic to beat him. I wish that had happened on the football field, but we’ll take what we can get with him.
Allen revealed his liking of golf in a May 2023 interview, stating that he appreciates the sport’s personal challenge.
“Golf is so mental, it’s so challenging,” Allen said, via the Buffalo News. “It’s always on hole 17 or 18 you hit that really good shot and you’re like, “Why can’t I do that every time?’ ”
Allen added that golf is a good counter to the intensity of football.
“It keeps bringing you back and pulling you back,” Allen said. “You’re playing against yourself and then you get to go out and hang out with guys, the new golf, blast some music out there and it’s four and a half hours where you put your phone away, you kind of feel like you get connected with nature. It’s a definite change of pace, but again it’s that mental fight you have with yourself that kind of pushes you to be better.”
