Swindon Town fantastic star send a massage of return to the County Ground

After making a dramatic return to Swindon Town, Harry McKirdy says there is “no better place” to be.

On the final day of the January transfer window, the forward completed an unexpected last-minute move to the County Ground from Scottish club Hibernian.

He previously played with the Robins from 2021 to 2022, rapidly becoming a fan favourite and earning Player of the Season and EFL League Two Team of the Season honours.

McKirdy spoke to the club’s official media for the first time since his departure and discussed his return.

“It feels different but obviously there are some familiar faces in the building and it’s just nice to be back,” he added.
“It’s wonderful for them [the fans] and nice for me as well, as I attempt to pick up where I left off last time, because the last 18 months haven’t gone well.

“I think there’s no better place to get myself back to that than putting yourself in an environment that you’ve already been.”Hopefully, the fans, players, and staff here can help me get back to who I was.”

The 26-year-old scored an incredible 26 goals in 49 games during his previous stay and is eager to return to action this season.

“I want to get back to what I was when I left here,” he told me.

“They [Swindon] only want to see me playing football and smiling on the pitch because that’s when the good stuff happens.
“I think they [the fans] all know from the get-go that I loved it here and I have no bad words,” he was quoted as saying.

“I need them to be patient with me and I’d love to hit the ground running and get going.”

McKirdy made his comeback against Newport County on Saturday, coming on as a substitute in Town’s 2-1 away loss.

“I think I showed a couple of glimpses at the weekend but I am still a long way away from being my best,” McKirdy went on to say.

“It’ll just be lovely to stroll out there and enter into familiar surroundings with fond recollections of this stadium [the County Ground].

“I think this is actually the last stadium I scored in so I’m hoping that’s going to happen again on Saturday.”

Town face Salford City at the County Ground on Saturday, with McKirdy expected to play.
