Alabama Freshman Linebacker QB Reese Says DeBoer Has Saban’s Championship Mindset

Meet Ramsay’s great defender on The Joe Gaither Show | Episode 170: February 13, 2024.
The Alabama Class of 2024 recruiting class was finished last Wednesday, when the Crimson Tide signed three players on National Signing Day. New head coach Kalen DeBoer has seen wide receiver Ryan Williams, edge rusher Noah Carter, and linebacker Quinton “QB” Reese sign contracts to join the Alabama program.

It was a whirlwind few months for Reese, Alabama’s 5A lineman of the year. He committed to the Crimson Tide in September, but like many others in his class, he wanted to play for a different head coach.

“It was really crazy, just knowing Coach Saban left, because nobody really expected Coach Saban to leave,” Reese told The Joe Gaither Show on BamaCentral. “But just getting to know the coaching staff and going on my OV and being able to get closer to them and begin to form bonds with them, I really appreciate the coaching staff. That’s what kept me dedicated to Alabama.

Reese described his journey from Ramsay High School in Birmingham to winning an Alabama scholarship. Despite being 6-foot, 210 pounds, he recorded 167 tackles for the Ramsay Rams and led them to the Class 5A State Championship game as a senior.

“It was great. I had a terrific season with my teammates and coaches. I really wanted to conclude with a win. Even if we didn’t win, everyone doesn’t get to the state tournament, and everyone doesn’t get to play at their desired school. So I was simply grateful for the opportunity,” Reese said about playing the title game at Bryant-Denny Stadium.

The linebacker may not be as well regarded as others of his classmates, but it is evident that the multifaceted athlete is eager to attend the Capstone and play at the greatest level.

“The mindset has always been to win, and I believe Coach DeBoer feels the same way. “I think it’s pretty much the same,” remarked Reese. “I believe he is using the program in the same way that Coach Saban used it. He shares Coach Saban’s goal of winning championships rather than just games.
