Charlton Athletic trial spell ends as 20-year-old heads back home

According to the Jamaica Gleaner, Mount Pleasant winger Devonte Campbell has returned to Jamaica after a trial at Charlton Athletic.
Charlton Athletic have recently shown interest in the kid.

Campbell, 20, trained with the Addicks but has since returned home.

He commented on his time with the League One club this winter, telling the Jamaica Gleaner: “Over there, everything is a lot more tactical and technical, you know. You have to know whose foot you’re passing the ball to, you have to understand the space you’re passing into; it’s simply being conscious of the little things where we may break in attention, so it’s important

“Those things.”
“It’s just about the hard work and having the mentality because I know that I have the ability to play at the level, so it’s just about going back to the training ground and working on the things that I am short on.”
Charlton Athletic trial concludes.
Campbell can play on either flank of the wing and hopes to improve his game as a result of his time at Charlton.

This season, he has appeared in three Jamaica Premier League matches. Mount Pleasant finished third in the table previous season and is managed by former Hull City and Tranmere Rovers player Theodore Whitmore.

They were promoted to the top division for the first time in 2018, and Campbell will be hungry to play a big role for them immediately.

Charlton were in action last night at home against Lincoln City in new manager Nathan Jones’ debut game at The Valley, and the game finished 1-1. The Imps led 1-0 after Reeco Hackett-Fairchild’s goal, but the Addicks equalised in the second half through striker Freddie Ladapo.

They are now 20th on the table, one point outside the drop zone. However, Port Vale and Cheltenham Town have games in hand as seen below.

Jones has joined a side that is fighting to avoid relegation with 14 games remaining. Charlton have been in poor form and need to turn things around quickly to avoid relegation to League Two.

This weekend, they travel to promotion-chasing Bolton Wanderers in the hope of picking up a win.
