Reading manager Ruben Selles described captain Andy Yiadom as ‘the dressing room’ after the 32-year-old made his 200th appearance for the club.
After missing Tuesday’s match with Fleetwood Town, the Ghana international started the 4-1 defeat against Portsmouth at Fratton Park on Saturday.
Arriving in 2018, the skipper played 75 minutes before being replaced with Tuesday’s encounter against Port Vale in mind.
Following the defeat, Selles praised Yiadom’s importance in the squad.
“I think Andy is the dressing room,” Selles said. “His mentality, his style of doing things, his composure, his method of playing football—he IS the dressing room. That is why he is our leader, and everyone else is complementing him nicely. It is critical for us to keep Andy well so that he may play 200 more games and continue to put up such impressive performances.”
Yiadom continued, “It’s a privilege, and I’m really glad to have made it.”
Only four players had made more appearances for the club since Yiadom’s arrival from Barnsley, and none of them remained in Berkshire.
Yiadom received the club’s Player of the Season title in 2022.
