Watford are still in contention for a play-off spot, and that will definitely be their first focus between now and the conclusion of the season.
Watford was particularly active in the transfer window both in the summer and in January, with 11 players signing permanent contracts and four joining on loan.
Several players were also released, sold, or loaned out, and with an eye on next season already, the club may make major changes to their team once again.
Here are three players who might have played their final game for Watford:
Ashley Fletcher
Ashley Fletcher has played 28 games and scored zero goals this season. The 28-year-old is presently on loan at fellow Championship club Sheffield Wednesday, but if he returns to Watford, he is unlikely to get regular minutes at Vicarage Road anytime soon.
The Hornets may need to cut losses and sell Fletcher. His days appear to be numbered, given that he is down the pecking order, has previously been loaned out three times, and has only made three appearances for Watford since signing in 2021.
Imran Louza
The midfielder was frozen out at Watford before securing his loan transfer from Vicarage Road, but if a permanent bid comes in for the Moroccan international, the Hornets may and should consider selling.
His loan at Lorient in the French top division has proven productive thus far, and while the arrangement does not include a buy option, something could be explored at the end of the season to sign him on a long-term contract.
Samuel Kalu
Kalu’s loan deal at Lausanne-Sport contains a buy option, and given the amount of players ahead of him in the Watford pecking order, he could have already played his final game for the club.
Now 26 years old, he is unlikely to want to sit about waiting for his chance at Watford, and if all parties agree, he might make his loan agreement in Switzerland permanent.
