latest news: Everton open to handing 27-year-old a new contract, he could yet play this season

The 27-year-old joined Everton in January 2022 after leaving Tottenham Hotspur.
According to the Mirror, the two teams are still negotiating the framework of the transaction. There have also been indications that Tottenham are willing to decrease the sum by £8 million, with The Times reporting that they are willing to cut the number of appearances required before Everton must pay.
Injuries have wreaked havoc on Alli’s 2023/24 season, which has not helped matters. The midfielder returned to training in December, but recently had another setback.

Sean Dyche confirmed that after groin surgery last month, he would be out of action for some time.

“We will see. There is a long way to go. We purposefully held him back; we agreed with him to give him time and space. “Hopefully, he’ll return; we just don’t know,” Dyche stated (via The Daily Mail).

“We gave him the privacy he required at this time. He’s in good condition. I spoke with him lately, and we had a really long conversation.”

However, there may be a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel.

Dele Alli’s Everton Injury Hope
Following Dyche’s last update, there was widespread belief that the 27-year-old’s chances of playing this season were poor.

It wasn’t surprising that the midfielder had played his final game, with his contract slated to end in the summer of 2024.

However, a ray of light has appeared at the end of the tunnel.

According to The Athletic, Alli’s return before the end of the 2023/24 season is not completely ruled out, despite the need to gradually ease him back into action.

Furthermore, it is thought that the midfielder wants to stay in the Premier League and that Everton is willing to offer him a new contract when his current term expires.

Everton deserves credit.
Everton deserves enormous respect for how they handled Alli’s predicament, particularly after his return from his disastrous loan spell in Turkey.

The club’s tolerance may have worn thin, but nothing could be further from the truth. There is a sense of support and belief that Alli will one day return to being regarded as one of Europe’s top young players.

If he can regain half of his former form, he has a good opportunity of making an impact if he is given a new contract on Merseyside.
