Wolves defender Yerson Mosquera caught the spotlight again this weekend as Villarreal trounced Granada 5-1 in La Liga.
The Colombia international is on loan with the Spanish club and hopes to play as many minutes as possible between now and the conclusion of the season.
He had a ‘excellent’ loan spell with FC Cincinnati last year, and Mosquera now hopes to become a prominent player for Villarreal.
Wolves have big expectations for Mosquera and believe he might be a future first-team player.
Performing well in a top five league in Europe will increase his chances of playing for Wolves next season. He had another great outing over the weekend.
Yerson Mosquera continues good form for Villarreal away from Wolves
Marcelino gave Mosquera another start in Sunday’s La Liga match against Granada.
It was his sixth appearance since signing, and, strangely, Villarreal has yet to lose a game in which he has participated.
Mosquera had his fourth consecutive start yesterday and performed admirably in the back.
According to Sofascore data, the youngster completed 47/55 (85%) passes, won 5/6 duels, made two tackles, and cleared an incredible eight times.
Villarreal cruised to victory, however they will be frustrated to have conceded a goal in injury time. That goal was scored by Theo Corbeanu, who departed Wolves permanently in January.
There was a noticeable Wolves presence in this game, with Molineux loanee Goncalo Guedes scoring for Villarreal. He scored the fourth goal immediately after the restart.
A terrific start.
Mosquera has quickly established himself in the Villarreal squad.
Their captain, Raul Albiol, recently praised the Wolves kid and his bright potential, and it appears that he is on track to return to Wolves this summer, ready to play in the first squad in 2024/25.
Mosquera was unlucky to suffer a major hamstring injury in his first season at Molineux.
Who knows how different things might have been if it had not occurred. But the £4.5 million star has worked hard to get to where he is now, and he is most likely delivering a message to Gary O’Neil from afar.
He is already on the manager’s radar. It was claimed last month that O’Neil turned down a permanent deal from Villarreal for Mosquera.
