BREAKING NEWS : Green Bay Packers has confirm the departure of another key playmaker

The Green Bay Packers began a new era of offensive in 2023, and one of the major holdovers appears to be on his way out.

According to Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Green Bay will release running back A.J. Dillon on March 13, when he becomes eligible for free agency.

“The Packers aren’t likely to re-sign free agent A.J. Dillon and so 2023 undrafted free agent Emanuel Wilson may be the only option to handle a bulk load,” Silverstein said in a March 1 article. “With at least 11 selections (including an estimated three compensatory picks), it’s likely the Packers will address the position somewhere in the draft.”

A.J. Dillon’s future is likely to suffer with a bad season in 2023. With the Packers.
Dillon, a former second-round choice out of Boston College in 2020, had the worst season of his four-year NFL career in 2023, aside from his rookie year.
A strong season may have earned Dillon a new contract as the Packers’ top rusher, but he only rushed for 613 yards on 3.4 yards per carry and scored two touchdowns, his lowest totals since the 2020 season.

Packers' upcoming free agency decision on AJ Dillon is as clear as day
The running back has 1,573 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns on the ground (14 total) in the previous two seasons, averaging 4.3 yards and 4.1 yards per attempt.

Last season, Dillon completed the final year of his four-year rookie contract worth $5.2 million in total. Spotrac estimates his market value at $3.5 million on a new one-year contract, but the fact that Green Bay is disinterested in bringing him back after four years of service — much of it great — reveals how the organization perceives Dillon’s trajectory.
Furthermore, a running back taken in the later rounds will cost the team nearly the same amount over four years as Dillon will in 2024.

Packers Looking to Restructure Aaron Jones’ Contract for Second Consecutive Offseason

If the Packers address the offensive backfield in the 2019 draft, they will most likely do it in the later rounds, possibly late on Day 2 or Day 3.
As a result, predicting who will be available and which prospects will pique the front office’s interest is a futile endeavor. One circumstance that does merit projection is that of starting running back Aaron Jones.

Green Bay decreased Jones’ compensation by $5 million in 2023 after encouraging him to accept a new contract. Jones has a salary cost of approximately $17.6 million in the last year of his $48 million contract in 2024, thus the Packers are expected to try and

If they want to keep him, they should lessen his hit again.
Silverstein explained the situation in his March 1 report.

Green Bay Packers management met with running back Aaron Jones’ agent at the NFL scouting combine in hopes of striking a deal on a salary cap reduction. … Bottom line: they want him back.

If the two cannot reach a deal within the next two weeks, the Packers may release him and hope that whatever offer they make is not matched on the open market. However, they risk losing him to another team.

Given Jones’ six-game absence and limited participation in numerous others due to hamstring and knee issues, the Packers are likely to reduce his cap number.

Jones, however, was a valuable asset to Green Bay while he was healthy. The running back gained over 100 yards rushing in the team’s final five games of the season, including two playoff games.
Jones, who won’t turn 30 until late next season, is a respected leader in the Packers’ locker room. As a result, losing him would be a setback for a young offense that is clearly improving under quarterback Jordan Love’s leadership.
