Luke McNally, who had been out with a thigh injury and had returned to training last Thursday, was well enough to start at Preston on Saturday, scoring the decisive goal in what may be a precious 2-1 win.
Jordan Thompson returned to the squad after serving a two-game suspension for accumulating ten yellow cards, but he remained on the bench, while Lynden Gooch, who seized the opportunity to stake a claim at left-back in Thompson’s absence, delivered a man-of-the-match performance at left wing-back.

Wouter Burger received his tenth booking of the season at Deepdale and will miss the game against Norwich as well as the Good Friday trip to Hull.
Ben Pearson will return from a one-match suspension for a red card at Leeds United and, along with Thompson and loanee Luke Cundle, will compete for Burger’s central midfield spot.
Ryan Mmaee hopes to return to full training this week after a knee ailment, but Junior Tchamadeu is sidelined until mid-April with an ankle injury.

Senior players who haven’t played recently, such as Mmaee, Wesley, Daniel Johnson, and Ciaran Clark, will get the opportunity to play for the under-21s on Friday away at Derby County.
