QPR could secure a permanent deal for Isaac Hayden this summer, following the latest Newcastle United development.
Newcastle United are aiming to unload Isaac Hayden during the upcoming summer transfer window.
According to Chronicle Live, the Magpies want to move the midfielder to get his pay off the books.
The 28-year-old is presently on loan at QPR and has become a crucial player of Martí Cifuentes’ team since joining in January.
Since coming in the winter, he has made eight appearances, six of which have been starts, and has helped the squad climb out of the Championship relegation zone.
With two years left on his Newcastle contract, the Premier League club may have to agree to a reduced fee in order to facilitate a trade, especially as QPR may find his reputed £50,000 per week wage a stumbling block in any potential permanent sale.
Carlton Palmer Issues QPR Issues Warning Regarding Isaac Hayden Transfer
Carlton Palmer believes that a permanent agreement for Hayden this summer would make a lot of sense, having been impressed by the player’s effect since signing in January.
However, he has urged the team against overspending, even if they do need to add more quality to their squad for next season.
“Isaac Hayden, who is on loan at QPR from Newcastle, has had a good second half of the season,” Palmer told Football League World.
“QPR have recently moved out of the relegation zone, and he has played a significant role in that.
“Newcastle has made it obvious that he can leave during the summer; they want to let him go, sell him, and deduct his salaries from the bill.
“The stumbling block for QPR is that, while they would like to sign him, even if he is available for free, his reported weekly wage of £50k will be a problem.
“Should QPR survive this season, and I believe they will, the manager’s done a fantastic job and I think they’ll survive.
“They won’t want to be in this position next season, so they’ll want to sign better players.
“Isaac would be one of those better players given the way he’s performed, but it’s whether they can come to a deal on his salary.
“So, obviously, no deal will be talked about until they know which division they are in, but £50,000 [per week] in the Championship is a lot of money.
“Given the way Hayden has performed in the second half of the season, there will be a lot of clubs interested in him, but QPR need to sign better players to avoid being in this position next year, but they also have to be careful of the amount of money they’re spending.”
QPR’s league position
QPR have climbed out of the relegation zone in recent weeks, thanks to a strong run of results that includes three consecutive victories.
Last weekend, the London team lost 2-0 to Middlesbrough, dropping to 20th in the Championship rankings.
With only nine games left in the season, the gap to the bottom three is down to one point.
Rangers will travel to the Stadium of Light to face Sunderland on March 16.
Hayden’s wages will provide a challenge for QPR.
Hayden’s loan stay has been extremely successful for QPR thus far, with the midfielder adding quality and experience to the squad.
However, a lasting arrangement will be more difficult to negotiate.
Hayden’s salary are considerably too high in comparison to the rest of the QPR group, so a pay cut will most certainly be required to accommodate him.
This might scupper a deal, especially if another Championship club decides to step in with a higher offer than the club can match.
