LSU’s top star points to there ‘status’ to explain why must players avoided skirmish with South Carolina players

The fight between LSU and South Carolina women’s basketball players at the SEC Tournament Championship was the buzz of the sports world.

Late in the fourth quarter, Gamecocks center Kamilla Cardoso was spotted slamming Tigers guard Flau’jae Johnson to the floor, causing the pushing and shoving to escalate and result in six ejections. South Carolina won the game and remains unbeaten heading into the NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament.

Basketball fans noted that LSU standout Angel Reese was not visible in the altercation, but rather spoke to Johnson off the court, attempting to calm her teammate down in the tense situation. In a post on X, Reese revealed why she did not become involved in the hectic event.

“As a person at my STATUS, sometimes you have to walk away from certain situations,” Reese posted on Facebook. “Mind you, the play before that, I rolled my ankle AGAIN and was already headed to the bench. I always ride for mine. I’m extremely proud of this team and very thrilled for March.”

Reese made it obvious after the game that she and her teammates were not afraid of the Gamecocks.

“We’re not scared of South Carolina, and I’m going to repeat that,” she told On3 Sports. “We are not terrified of South Carolina.

“A lot of people are afraid of them, so we came in and battled till the end. Of course, we fell short, but we’ll see them again, or someone else will.
