Charlton Athletic has announced the signing of experienced winger Kazenga LuaLua.
The 33-year-old, who appeared 182 times for the Seagulls, was last contracted with Greek club Levadiakos in 2023.
He has now signed a short-term contract till the end of April 2024.
Manager Nathan Jones expressed his joy at Lualua’s signing, having previously worked with him at Brighton and Luton Town.
“He’s someone we don’t have here,” Jones explained.
“We wanted to have that option so it was an ideal opportunity.”
The 33-year-old began his career at Newcastle United, where he rose through the youth ranks before making his Premier League debut in January 2008.
The thought of working under Nathan Jones piqued the Addicks’ latest recruit’s interest.
“I know the gaffer from when I was at Brighton and also at Luton,” he stated.
“I’ve had a great time with him. It’s a pleasure to work with him again because I’ve always learned a lot.
“I’ve been training with the team for the last few weeks and I’m buzzing to wear the shirt.”
The Addicks are unbeaten in their previous seven League One games and have only lost once since Nathan Jones took over as manager.
In February, the Welshman became permanent manager, succeeding Michael Appleton.
“We’re just waiting for international clearance to see if he’ll be involved at the weekend [against Fleetwood Town],” Jones was quoted as saying
“He’s a player I’ve worked with over a number of years, I worked with him at Brighton where he was magnificent, and then he came in and did a similar job for me at Luton.”
LuaLua, the younger brother of former Newcastle striker Lomana LuaLua, went through the Magpies’ academy.
Charlton are 15th in League One, 10 points above the relegation zone.
