Sheffield Wednesday are reportedly close to sign Watford fantastic striker in the summer

Sheffield Wednesday has reportedly put a teenage striker on trial.

Sheffield Wednesday, particularly under Danny Rohl, is placing a greater emphasis on younger players.
When Rohl arrived in October, he stated that his goal was to bridge the gap between the youth teams and the first squad, which he has accomplished.

Bailey Cadamarteri is the standout player moved from the Sheffield Wednesday youth to the first squad this season, having scored three goals in 19 Championship appearances for the Owls.

Cadamarteri has subsequently won a long-term contract with the club, as well as a spot in England’s U19s squad, with Gui Siqueira and Joey Phuthi also making the step up at Hillsborough this season.

According to The Star, Sheffield Wednesday have taken Watford attacker James Collins on trial.

The 19-year-old is now under contract at Vicarage Road but his contract will expire in the summer, according to The Star, and he came close to scoring for Wednesday in their Professional Development League victory over QPR this week.

Watford has the option to prolong his stay by another year.
Who is Watford’s striker James Collins?

Collins attended the Hertford Town academy before joining Watford in 2023.

He is yet to make his Hornets first-team debut, having spent time on loan in the non-league.

Collins characterized himself as a hold-up striker during a club interview last year. I prefer to keep possession of the ball and bring others into play. Normally, most of my goals come from the penalty spot or the six-yard box. “I enjoy converting cuts and crosses.

James Collins is seeking to follow Bailey Cadamateri’s path.
Cadamarteri’s rise and subsequent impressive periods in the first squad this season have set the tone for Sheffield Wednesday’s current young players and future players.

Players like Collins, who are searching for a breakthrough in the Football League, will increasingly see Sheffield Wednesday as a viable option, as Rohl has shown strong faith in the academy.

And, in the long run, it appears that the academy will play a more vital role in the club, as long as Rohl is in charge and gives these guys game time.

Siqueira and Phuthi haven’t had as big of an impact as Cadamarteri, whose game time has dropped throughout the season, but if the club can continue to hire younger players, the increased competition should improve the general quality of the development team.

Sheffield Wednesday’s first team returns to Championship play next weekend against Swansea City.
