JUST IN : Ravens’ Lamar Jackson sends heartfelt message after Baltimore bridge tragedy

The Francis Scott Key Bridge fell unexpectedly early Tuesday morning after presumably being rammed by a 985-foot cargo ship, causing tragedy in Baltimore. Lamar Jackson, the Baltimore Ravens’ great quarterback, was among the first players to send a message of solidarity to everyone affected by the awful event.

The two-time NFL Most Valuable Player took to social media to share his grief over the disaster and offer encouragement to those struggling with the consequences.

“My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with the persons and families affected by the Baltimore Bridge collapse.”🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾,” the Ravens signal-caller wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter).

The ship, named DALI, that collided with the bridge is claimed to be owned by Singapore-based Grace Ocean Pte and chartered by maritime major Maersk to convey cargo to Sri Lanka. When the bridge collapsed, automobiles and a crew of construction workers plunged into the Patapsco River.

CNN reports that all of the ship’s crew members are safe.

The vessel is currently keeping its position at the collision scene and is steady. All 22 crew members are safe and accounted for. CNN has contacted Synergy Group, the ship’s managing firm, for comment.

Meanwhile, CNN reports that five vehicles have already been recovered from the water, and search and rescue activities continue.

Other Ravens respond to the Key Bridge fall.

The Ravens, a football team that has long been a huge part of people’s lives in Baltimore, are attempting to at least let the public know that they have their back in situations like these.

Apart from Jackson, several members of the Ravens family expressed their feelings about the catastrophe and attempted to console everyone touched by the horrific collapse of the facility.

“Please say your Prayers for Baltimore 🙏🏽,” wide receiver Tylan Wallace posted on X.

“Thoughts and prayers for the city of Baltimore and the families involved🙏🏾,” defensive back Brandon Stephens shared.
Former Ravens wideout Torrey Smith, who won a Super Bowl with Baltimore in 2013, said the following: “Prayers up for everyone involved with the Key Bridge accident 🙏🏿”
The Ravens released a statement as well:

“Our hearts go out to those who have been affected by the horrific Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse early this morning. We are grateful for the first responders and local leaders who are on scene to lead the search and rescue efforts and to support those families who have been most directly impacted. We know that the Baltimore community will stand together in the aftermath of this tragic event. Statement from the Baltimore Ravens”

The Baltimore Orioles, the Ravens’ baseball equivalents, have also issued a statement, which reads:

“A Statement From The Baltimore Orioles We are horrified by the news of the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse and extend our thoughts and prayers to anyone affected by this tragedy. We applaud the heroic first responders, as well as the men and women who are actively working on rescue efforts. Baltimore is a tight-knit and resilient city. Together, we will get through this. Orioles”
