LATEST NEWS : Kansas City Chiefs are close to trade up for a speedster to help Patrick Mahomes.

The Kansas City Chiefs have already acquired one playmaker during free agency, signing Marquise “Hollywood” Brown to bolster Patrick Mahomes’ receiving corps, but they may not be done improving one of the weakest links on a championship squad.

Last season, Mahomes’ supporting group was hampered by drops, with Chiefs receivers dropping an NFL-high 41 throws. So, even after signing Brown, the concept of doubling down on a commitment to improve receiver talent does not seem out of the question.

In a new mock draft, the Kansas City Chiefs target Xavier Worthy.
According to NFL.com analyst Chad Reuter’s most recent 2024 mock draft projection, the Chiefs trade up to choose University of Texas burner Xavier Worthy at No. 19 overall, following a transaction with the Los Angeles Rams.

“The Chiefs aren’t waiting around for a speedster like Worthy to stretch the field,” Reuter reports for NFL.com. “In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if they moved him to the top half of the draft.” Yes, Kansas City recently signed Marquise Brown, but a) it’s a one-year contract, and b) the Chiefs’ receiving corps could need several enhancements. The Rams have historically traded down.

Worthy, who threw 75 passes for 1,014 yards and five touchdowns during his junior season in Austin, clocked a 4.21-second 40-yard sprint at the NFL Combine and might be a willing trade partner in exchange for Kansas City’s first and second-round picks. It’s clear that, alongside developing star Rashee Rice, Brown, and All-Pro tight end Travis Kelce, Worthy has the potential to elevate Kansas City’s vertical passing attack.

Xavier Worthy Scouting Report
Worthy may be a quintessential Chiefs receiver.

According to Sports Info Solutions, Worthy’s most notable strength may be his explosiveness.

“Xavier Worthy’s primary position is X-WR for Texas’ pro-style offense,” the outlet points out. “Although he has played all receiver positions, including significant time in the slot. He broke his hand late in the 2022 season and injured his left ankle late in the 2023 season, but neither cost him any games. Worthy has sufficient height and length, but has a slight frame. He has some toned muscle, but could add more to handle the NFL.
“He’s an explosive athlete with very good deep speed, and he flashes a fantastic ability to explode out of breaks. His acceleration and foot quickness are both NFL-caliber, as well. Playing through a broken hand and an injured ankle are testaments to how much he wants to compete, but when on the field, he will take numerous plays off when he is not likely to be targeted and provides a minimal effort when blocking.”
