Carlos Corberan, Albion’s manager, insists he has no interest in individual prizes after being overlooked for EFL Championship Manager of the Year.
Despite leading a strong campaign while operating under significant financial constraints, the Spaniard did not make the three-man shortlist.
After a summer with minimal budget and limited opportunities to bring in new players, Corberan has put Albion in a solid position for the play-offs, but his efforts have been overlooked for the end-of-season award.
Daniel Farke of Leeds United and Kieran McKenna of Ipswich Town have both been nominated, but Hull City’s Liam Rosenior has received the third nomination, despite investing extensively in the summer and January transfer windows.
However, Corberan is unconcerned with the rejection, as he utilized the chance to commend his players for their efforts in placing the team in a strong position heading into the six-game stretch run. He stated, “Football is a team sport, and I do not believe in or am interested in individual awards for players or coaches.” My main goal is to support this club in whatever way I can to put it in the best possible position.
“Thanks to my players’ efforts, we are now in a position to compete for a play-off spot at the end of the season. We still have many games to play, but this opportunity is the most important to me.”
Albion might potentially secure a play-off spot in the coming weeks, ahead of the season’s final league games.
If the results go their way and the Baggies maintain their recent success, they may have some breathing room and preparation time before the play-off lottery in May.
But manager Carlos Corberan isn’t looking too far ahead.
His team travels to Stoke today with an eight-point lead over the teams below them, which may expand to double figures if results go their way.
However, the ever-professional Spaniard is fully focused on his team and preparing them properly in order to keep ticking and adding points to their tally.
He stated, “I believe we must compete to the best of our abilities in every game in order to gain points.
“Our minds are focused on adding points to see what we can do to help us in the pitch and get closer to the end goal we want to achieve.”
“Everyone wants to win games, and we must adopt the essential behaviors to help us. The focus is not on the outcome, but on performing well, defending well, and attacking effectively, which is what we need right now.”
