The New York Yankees Should Show Interest in This Right-Handed All-Star After Shane Bieber’s Injury

The New York Yankees should be interested in a right-handed pitcher from the Milwaukee Brewers following Shane Bieber’s injury announcement on Saturday.

The New York Yankees are anticipated to be interested in pitching around the trade deadline, adding a serious arm to strengthen their rotation. With Gerrit Cole missing for the first few games of the season due to an injury, the Yankees realized the importance of getting another arm.

Shane Bieber, a potential target, received terrible news on Saturday when it was reported that he will miss the rest of the season due to Tommy John surgery. Given the Cleveland Guardians’ expected struggles, the right-hander was an ideal trade candidate for New York.

The Yankees must now find another pitcher capable of replacing Bieber. Freddy Peralta of the Milwaukee Brewers may be the most viable candidate. Similar like the Guardians, the Milwaukee Brewers are expected to struggle this season. Given that the Brewers recently moved Corbin Burnes and Willy Adames is the subject of trade speculations, moving Peralta appears to be a possibility.

Peralta will be eligible for free agency in 2025, so Milwaukee will need to pay him soon, which they may be unwilling to do if the team isn’t in a winning position.

The right-hander was chosen an All-Star in 2021 and has had several successful seasons, including the greatest year of his seven-year major league career. Peralta pitched 165 2/3 innings in 2023, striking out 210 batters and recording a 3.86 ERA. He has also had FIPs below 3.9 in each of his last four seasons, indicating that he is pitching at an elite level.

It’s unclear whether Peralta will become available, but he’s an ideal target to trade for if New York is still looking for an arm before the deadline.
