Leeds United’s promotion bid suffered a big setback at home against Sunderland on Tuesday.
Daniel Farke blasted Leeds United’s performance against Sunderland on Tuesday night.
The Whites labored to a 0-0 draw at home against the Black Cats in midweek, denting their automatic promotion hopes.
The Yorkshire side dominated possession for much of the game, but failed to produce many dangerous opportunities.
Farke’s side is now in danger of dropping out of the top two, with Ipswich Town scheduled to face Watford on Wednesday evening.
With only four games remaining, a Tractor Boys victory would put them ahead of Leeds in the league.
Farke outlines a crucial Leeds United issue.
Farke has chastised his team for overly relying on star player Crysencio Summerville.
He has lauded the player’s contribution to the squad this season, but believes his teammates must find other attacking options to add more balance to their game.
“[We] had that tendency against Coventry,” Farke told Leeds Live (22.43).
“Summerville has great numbers, and we do force it that way.
“Too focused on this side.
“When you have a vital player like him, it is logical to seek him out.
“When you see how we share the goals and assists, we are not addicted to one side or player.”
Farke remained calm despite Leeds’ terrible results.
The Leeds manager also said that the team should remain cool despite two dismal results in a row, including a loss to Coventry City last weekend.
“In my first seasons as a manager I may have been nervous and crazy and throwing bottles on the pitch, but it is important to say analytical,” he went on to remark.
“Everyone can go crazy in our environment, but when you lead the club, you demonstrate leadership and do not run around like a nervous hen.”
“I wasn’t happy after Coventry, but I was pleased with many things [against Sunderland].”
“In many respects, it was a superior performance. “They’re all young men.”
Leeds United’s league position
Leeds climbed up to second in the Championship table after a 0-0 draw with Sunderland, closing the distance on Leicester City to one point.
The Foxes succumbed at relegation-threatened Millwall, with Ryan Longman’s superb goal handing the Lions a 1-0 victory.
However, this has allowed Ipswich to take the lead in the rankings on Wednesday evening.
Kieran McKenna’s side hosts Watford at 7.45pm, and a win will put them ahead of both Leicester and Leeds.
Leeds needs more creativity.
While Leeds have been good this season, their main problem has been a lack of great creative options in the squad, resulting in an over-reliance on someone like Summerville.
This may lead to frustrating games, such as Tuesday’s draw at home against Sunderland, which could now prove expensive.
Their fate is no longer in their own hands, and they will need help from others to finish in the top two, beginning with Watford this evening.
With only four games remaining, Farke’s side will undoubtedly need 12 points from 12 to have any hope of automatic promotion to the Premier League this season.
