The British Columbia Lions announced on Thursday that they had signed American linebacker Joe Beckett. He was a member of the Blue Winnipeg Bombers during training camp and preseason last year, but was released at final roster cuts.

Joe Beckett attended Wofford College and played collegiate basketball. He appeared in 53 games, scoring 28. He had 183 career stops, including 14.5 tackles for loss, 7.5 sacks, a forced fumble, and a fumble returned for a score. In his final season of 2021, he recorded 35 solo tackles, 45 assisted tackles, 4 TFLs, a fumble recovery, and a score.
During his 2022 pro day, he ran a 4.56 40-yard sprint, a 36-inch vertical, a 10-foot broad leap, a 4.53-second 20-yard shuttle, and a 7.41-second 3-cone drill.
Following his college career, he was invited to the New York Giants’ rookie camp in 2022. He joined with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers ahead of the 2023 season, recording four tackles in two preseason games before being released as part of the final roster cuts.
