With the end of the Championship season approaching, clubs throughout the division have began to seek for acceptable summer additions, and Sunderland has identified one in particular.

Sunderland are currently without a manager, but the potential to recruit an experienced Championship player for free, such as Willock
doesn’t come around too often, and the club may have to act quickly to sign him even if it means doing so without any new manager giving any deal the green light. The 26-year-old is by no means old, but he has plenty of experience at this level and Sunderland have been crying out for more of that all season, so Willock looks a great signing on paper.
Chris Willock would be a very smart signing for Sunderland
Sunderland’s failure to kick on from last season can be attributed to one main reason – their recruitment strategy.
The Black Cats sign young, promising players and develop them in the hope of being able to sell them on for significantly more money in the years to come. Whilst that’s an admirable way of doing things, the club need to find the balance between youth and experience, and it’s something they must address this summer.

He’s made 38 appearances for the Hoops this season, scoring four goals and providing four assists, the most recent being in a 4-0 win over Leeds United to guarantee the R’s Championship position.
He also won the club’s Player of the Year title for the 2021/22 season, indicating that signing him would be a huge coup for Sunderland.
If Willock joins the Black Cats, he will be a regular starter, and the team must try to make the transfer happen this summer.
Links to Chris Willock suggest a change in Sunderland’s recruitment policy.
Sunderland supporters will be hopeful that being associated with Willock is only the beginning of the club’s pursuit of more experienced players this summer, and that the hierarchy has learned from this season.
Sunderland should continue to buy and nurture youthful talent, but they must combine it with experience, which they have not done before.
While senior players may not have as much sell-on value, they will enhance the team and increase their chances of promotion. They may also benefit the club’s younger players by helping them develop their game and passing on information.
It’s going to be a big summer for Sunderland, and the more experience they can sign, the better.
Being associated with Willock is a nice start, and Sunderland fans will be hopeful that more players of the same caliber will be linked with the club this summer.
