LATEST UPDATE : Coventry City key player linked with summer transfer as interest reignited

The most recent Coventry City transfer news, as Charlton Athletic are once again linked with Matty Godden ahead of the summer window. Charlton Athletic have reportedly renewed their interest in Coventry City striker Matty Godden ahead of the summer transfer season.

Since joining the Sky Blues in 2019, the 32-year-old has made 155 appearances and scored a half-century goals. His arrival facilitated the club’s promotion to the Championship, and he has since remained a member of Mark Robins’ team as it strives for the top flight.

However, given that he has one year remaining on his current term and has slid down the pecking order at the Coventry Building Society Arena, there is a decision to be made: cash in now.

Offer a new contract or risk losing the player to a free transfer in 2025. Londonnewsonline believes Charlton would be delighted to assist with the former option, since Godden is on their wishlist of possible striker additions ahead of the new season. They finished the 2023/24 season in 16th place in the third division.

They report that the Addicks had intended to capture the Canterbury-born striker while he was still a Stevenage player, but he chose to join Peterborough United in 2018. The following year, he relocated to Coventry for £750,000, and the opportunity had passed.

Last year, he was linked with a move to Derby County or Oxford United, but instead signed a contract extension.

“I’m absolutely delighted and it’s something I’ve wanted and now I can concentrate on this season and next season and see where we can go,” he said at the time.

“I’ve had a better time here than anywhere else, and my family and everyone else has agreed. We adore the area and the club, and we’re all excited to see it completed.”

However, a move for Godden seems uncertain, since Charlton’s focus will be to stiffen their defensive line after conceding more goals than they scored in the previous season. To do this, a goalkeeper signing will take precedence.
